Why Read the Bible

“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given man. All the good from the savior of the world is communicated to us through the Book. But for it we could not know right from wrong.” Abraham Lincoln

My doctor had recommended surgery and referred me to a specialist. Arriving early for my appointment, I found the door unlocked and the young surgeon, deeply engrossed in reading, behind the receptionist's desk. When he didn't hear me come in, I cleared my throat. Startled, he closed the book, which I recognized as a Bible. "Does reading the Bible help you before or after an operation?" I asked. My fears were dispelled by his soft, one-word answer: "During."

 Eleanor Schmidt, in Reader's Digest.

Are you reading your Bible? How often are you reading your Bible?

Have you ever stopped and thought about why we should read our Bibles? This is going to be the topic of our message this coming Sunday. We will discuss Reasons for Reading our Bible, Psalm 1:1-3.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Where do you seek your counsel?

               Who do you stand with?

               Are you prospering?

               Are you producing fruit?
