Who is My Neighbor?

You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and Prophets. Matthew 7:12

My little children, let us not love in word or tongue, but in deed and in truth. I John 3:18

February the month of hearts, valentines, candy, cards, bears and love is here. Our theme for worship and our messages this month will be about love.

We exist because God loved us enough to create us and the world we live in! We live because God created us to have a relationship with Him and love Him as He loves us and love others in the same way.

Sometimes it is hard for people to understand how SUPREMELY God really loves them. God is not people and God’s love is greater than any other love you know.

Sometimes the “Golden Rule” and the “New Commandment” to love others are just words because Christians talk a good talk but do not walk a good walk.

It is easy to say the words “I love You”, but it is not as easy to SHOW IT IN OUR ACTIONS, in fact too many times our actions say just the opposite. I am not talking about people who are not saved because truthfully, they do not know God so they do not know God’s love. If we claim to be a Child of God, then we should know the love of God and our actions SHOULD MATCH OUR WORDS!

This Sunday we will see love thru the story of the Good Samaritan. The story is found in Luke 10:25-37. Read the story and answer this question, what nationality was the person who was injured and left for dead on the road?

If this were today some of the “excuses” the Priest and Levite gave for not stopping may have sounded something like this:

This road is too dangerous to stop on for anyone

This could be a setup and a trap just to get me to stop

I am running late and do not have time to stop

I have my “temple clothes” on and can’t get them dirty

               I will pray for him

Join me this week as we talk about love and the reason Jesus told this story. This week’s message is titled “WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?”

February is going to be a busy month! If you haven’t gone to our web page, www.potosibaptistchurch.org yet check it out! All this month’s activities are there. Look for the newsletter and print it out, remember to mark all the special activities happening this month.

*This is a tease and hopefully a way to get even more to look at our newsletter on the web. There is something special mentioned in the newsletter that is going to happen on one of our Sunday’s in February but you will ONLY find it in the newsletter on the web. Look for it and join in.

THANK YOU, NANCY HALL FOR VOLUNTEERING AND KEEPING THE NURSERY THIS PAST SUNDAY! We are in need of a nursery volunteer for this coming Sunday.

Wednesday Night Children

Beginning this coming Wednesday, February 8th at 6:30 pm Kyle and Rhonda Swinny will be teaching our children! Bible stories, Missions, projects… fun, bring your children.

PRAYER NEEDS: Michelle Collier and family (death of her mother, her funeral was this past Monday), Linda Mayfield’s family (her funeral was Thursday), Mark and Marsha Bonham (his mother died and funeral is Friday, February 3, 2017), Kenny Faircloth recovering from Gallbladder surgery, John Frye recovering from blood clot, Mike Collier’s mom had knee replacement surgery this week, Shea Leech

Three funerals in one week, that is hard on people. Keep our church family in your prayers, the Collier, Mayfield and Bonham families in your prayers and your church ministry team as we have been involved in each of these services.

It has been a very busy week, it has been a draining week, physically and emotionally but I am planning on being in our worship this Sunday! I am looking forward to seeing everyone and singing and sharing God’s word together. I am excited thinking that you are going to be a part of worship and look forward to meeting the new people who will come.

See you Sunday!

Your pastor and friend

Bro. Keith
