The Christmas Story as Told by the Prophets

GOOD NEWS! Potosi Baptist Church has received a “Big Blessing”! The announcement and sharing of this blessing will happen this coming Sunday evening. Join us then for this special announcement.

Sunday morning, we will continue telling the “Christmas Story” this week our message will be “The Christmas Story, shared by the Prophets”. It is amazing and awesome how God thru many prophets 100’s of years before Jesus was born shared details such as the city, the tribe from which He would be an ancestor and what His name would be.

God is amazing! Join me this Sunday as we continue to tell the “Christmas Story”!

Remember Sunday evening we will have our monthly business conference and meal and this month our meal is “pot luck”.

Happy Thanksgiving

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Thank You to everyone who helped make last Sunday a wonderful day! There was lots of food, over 130 in worship and most of them stayed for the meal! We delivered groceries to FIVE FAMILIES this week, so they will have a good Thanksgiving meal! Thanks for sharing in our fellowship meal and thanks for sharing so others will have a Thanksgiving meal!

For those who may have missed Sunday morning, I added our special mission’s activities and our budgeted missions and came up with an estimated figure of what we have given just thru October this year. The ways we gave were thru, Operation Christmas Child with 139 boxes, the car show, our Mustard seed ministry, Share The Love ministry, Gideon Bibles, all our mission’s offerings, BCBA, ACBA Social ministries, SBC cooperative program, and the total was nearly $31,000! I remembered, I did not add in our Super Summer Sunday offerings, it would go up even more with those! I shared that to say THANK YOU for giving and supporting missions! I also did that because I think sometimes we think because we are a smaller church our totals aren’t very large, but 31 to 32 thousand dollars is huge for us! Thanks again for giving!

PRAYER NEEDS: Jim Davis had a stint put in this past week and is home doing well, pray for people’s safety as they travel

MISSIONS

We are now receiving our Lottie Moon Foreign mission offering, help us to give our best!

We have a family of two young boys that we have adopted to help with Christmas. I will have the boy’s info to post for clothing sizes next week.

We will also be gathering blankets, coats and gloves for the homeless.

Please be safe if you will be traveling, look forward to seeing you in worship this coming Sunday! Be praying for Hunter as He will be bringing our Sunday message.

I Am the Way

“Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence. As fire burns brushwood, as fire causes water to boil, to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence. When You did awesome things for which we did not look, You came down and the mountains shook at Your presence.” Isaiah 64:1-3

Are you missing out on the “awesome things” God is doing?

THANK YOU

Thank You for another great “Mustard Seed” planting and receiving! Thank you to everyone who helped get our church name out into the community and gathered another huge truckload of groceries for “Mission Thanksgiving”.

Thank you for supporting the “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox ministry. With what we have already gathered and what will come in this weekend we should go over 100 boxes to send to children around the world and bless them with God’s love.

Thank you to our messengers for going and participating in our associational meeting this week! There were 8 of us representing our church, thanks again for being there!

SECURITY IS IMPORTANT!

Please be praying for everyone in Sutherland Springs, I can’t imagine the pain they must all be experiencing. I want you to know that we have already been working to make Potosi Baptist a safe place to worship and will continue to make it even more safe. I know not everyone liked it when we started locking down some doors and keeping them locked like the doors at the front of the sanctuary, but everyone wants to be safe and please know that we are working to make Potosi Baptist Church a safe place to worship.

OPORTUNITIES FOR MISSIONS

We have a family (grandmother and two grandsons 7 & 8 yr. old’s) who need help with Christmas and food for the holidays. I have sizes and info, let me know if you would like to help us help this family.

Share the love this Thanksgiving: Our table is growing with can goods and other grocery items. Thank You for giving to this, we will be able to help several with all these groceries!

LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING: we are now receiving our missions offering for our missionaries and their work around the world! Envelopes for this offering are available.

Remember this is the LAST WEEKEND for bringing in your shoeboxes! We will be taking all shoeboxes to the regional collection center in Abilene this coming week, so we need them all completed and brought back in this Sunday.

This Sunday evening is our monthly business meeting, meal at 6pm and meeting at 6:30pm.

We will have our annual Thanksgiving Fellowship Meal on Sunday, November 19th!  We will not have evening services on November 19th or Wednesday November 22nd.

PRAYER NEEDS: First Baptist church, Sutherland Springs & community, Joan Bouchillon, Lyn Peterson, Gail Curtis, Pat Smith, Thanks for the rain this week

This Sunday we will continue our series on the “I AM” messages. This week’s message will be “I Am the Way’’ from John 14:6.

II Timothy 2:11-13 “This is a faithful saying, for if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”

Thank You Jesus for being faithful! Jesus doesn’t stop being “the way”!

Mark 3:28-29 “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.”

I have just put these verses in this email to give you a taste of what we may talk about this coming Sunday. I pray you will join me in worship as we talk about Jesus being “the way”, the one and only way and our only hope.

Ministry Highlight

This week I would like to thank all the men who are volunteering on a weekly basis to be part of our welcoming committee. A few years back we invited an Abilene police officer to go thru our building and then give us some security ideas. Locking doors, limiting access and keeping eyes on the doors that are open were some of the ideas shared. We have been working since to keep people attending PBC safe while they are here. Thank you again to all those who volunteer to help us with safety.

See you in worship!

I Am the Resurrection

THANK YOU

For making our “Trunk or Treat” a success! You blessed our community, our church family and shared God’s love, Thank You!

MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

We will be receiving financial donations thru this coming Sunday for our State missions offering then we will total it all up and send it in. I am not sure what the total is or what it will be, but I think we are in the neighborhood of $1000. Thanks for your financial support to missions!

Share the love this thanksgiving! We are gathering groceries to give to families in need. Bring your groceries and put them on the collection table that is decorated and placed just inside the glass entry doorway. Thank You for sharing in Thanksgiving!

Operation Christmas Child, we have ONE MORE WEEK, then we need to have all our boxes filled and returned to the church by Sunday, November 12th so we can take them to the drop off center in Abilene the next day. The last count I had was 75 boxes filled and ready to be sent. We also have a left-over table of stuff in case you want to start another box or help finish one already started. Thank You for sharing God’s love with Children of “His World”!

Mustard Seed Sunday! We will meet at the church this coming Sunday at 3pm and go out in groups and gather can goods and groceries for Mission Abilene. We will return at 5pm so we can beat the early Sunset since time change is this weekend and it is time to FALL BACK one hour. Thank You for helping by taking time to do something to help others and for being a part of Potosi Baptist Church and showing our community that we are serving others!

*Yes, we will still have our monthly deacons meeting.

*In place of our regular evening Bible Study, we will be boxing up and sorting all the groceries gathered. After all the work in collecting and boxing and sorting then all who would like are invited to join in a time of fellowship and a meal at “TAMALES”.

PRAYER NEEDS: Lyn Peterson, Pat Smith, Gail Curtis,

I AM series, we have talked about “I am the Bread”, “I am the Vine” and “I am the Shepherd”. In the same “I am the Shepherd” scripture is where Jesus talks about “I am the door/gate” and it got a brief mention in last week’s message so that is four of the “I am” statements.

Some of you may remember Hunter preaching not long ago about the “Line in the Sand”. It is in that text when the woman caught in adultery is being talked about that Jesus says, “I am the Light”. I am not going to re-preach a message that Hunter covered so recently (and I believe that He covered well)!

So that is 5 of the 7 and only leaves “I am the Way” and “I am the resurrection”. The “I am the resurrection” is found in the story of Lazarus and his death. The Bible story is found in John 11. This will be our message for this coming Sunday. Please join me in praying for this week’s message and worship as we continue our series on the “I Am” statements of Jesus.

Ministry Highlight

This week I would like to highlight our deacon ministry. Every Sunday we have a deacon of the week, they are listed in our bulletin and they open our service with prayer. I am happy to work with each one of these men Jim Davis, Chris Jennings, Darren Belyeu, Frank Healer, Tim Richards, Mike Collier, Mark Childers and Ken Hargis. Something unique about this group is that when I first came in the spring of 2009 to PBC Mike Collier was the only deacon we had then who is still an active deacon today. When I came I knew that we were going to need some good strong leadership to help us as a church family heal and grow. Thru the years of our seeking the LORD’s leadership as a church family these are the leaders that God has put in place, thank you PBC family for seeking the LORD’s guidance and thank you deacons for saying yes to serving the LORD and thank YOU, LORD for answering our prayers.

Honorable mention goes to Melvin Faircloth and Bill Pope, these two men stepped back in from being inactive deacons when I first came. They stepped in when we needed leadership and till we could get some leadership, Thanks guys for helping out!

Let us give Thanks!

See you in worship!

A Heart that is Ready

Our theme verse for this week’s revival in Ira was Psalm 61:2 “When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

We talked each service about things that “overwhelm” our hearts and the kind of hearts God wants us to have. Our series of messages included “A HEART THAT IS CLEAN”, “A HEART THAT CARES”, “A HEART THAT SHARES”, “A HEART THAT IS FREE” AND “A HEART THAT IS READY”.

It is “A Heart that is Ready” that I would like to share with you this Sunday in our worship. Our text for this message is taken from 2Kings 20 and is about King Hezekiah and God extending his life 15 more years.

In 20:1 God told Hezekiah “Set your house in order”. My question is “What did Hezekiah have to do to set his house in order?” If you back up to 2 Kings 18:1-5 it is said that Hezekiah was a great king and there was not a king like him ever before or after. It is also said that he was a very godly king destroying idol worship and restoring “True worship”. I really believe king Hezekiah was a Christian so “what did he have to set in order?”

Please join me in praying for this week’s message and join me in this week’s service as we worship and seek to give God “A Heart that is Ready”.

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT

This week the couple I would like to highlight is Kevin and Linda Parker. Kevin and Linda joined our church not long after I came back in 2009. I remember back then we had a need for a children’s S.S teacher and we began announcing the need and it wasn’t long that Linda came up to me after one of our services and shared that God was putting it on her heart to teach and that was the beginning of their serving here. Today she is still teaching and we are blessed to have her in our children’s department. You see Kevin each week setting in the Video booth operating our visual needs for worship. I think it is a blessing to our church to have a couple who also are “Foster Parents”.  It is a blessing to know that children are getting to live with godly people and we as a church also get to love on the children that they are taking care of. Thank you, Kevin and Linda, for being part of Potosi Baptist Church.

Prayer needs: Praise for the rain!  Mike’s dad (heart bypass), Melissa’s mom (knee surgery), Pat Smith, Lynn Peterson, The Satterwhite’s, Gail Curtis,

Thank you, Hunter for doing another outstanding job! We are blessed to have Hunter as a member of our church staff!

Looking forward to worshipping this Sunday, see you then!
