Happy Thanksgiving

Psalm 117:1-2

Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you people! For His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

Psalm 118:1

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Let us give thanks to our Heavenly Father for His kindness to us, and let us share His kindness with others through our kindness to them.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I Corinthians 13:4

Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil

Just a thought: why is it that Christians expect non-Christians to be KIND, TENDERHEARTED, FORGIVING NOT RUDE AND NOT PUFFED UP, yet it is ok for Christians to ignore these teachings and act however they feel like acting?

Thank you, Kitchen Ministry Team, for another great meal served! For those who may not know this ministry team and they are a ministry for all the ways they serve the families not only of our church but also community, meet weekly to plan discuss and prepare to serve. For week’s they have been making trips to stores, working on decorations making sure all the ingredients for our dinner were taken care of. They did an awesome job, coordinating this meal and making it a great meal to eat and getting as many different others involved bringing side dishes. Thank you, ladies, for the hours of hard work and all the time planning and thoughtfulness that you put into making this a great Thanksgiving fellowship meal! And you should know that these ladies do this year-round to help us serve our associational meals, funeral meals and all our other church meals. THANK YOU AGAIN LAIES FOR A GREAT MEAL AND THANK YOU FOR A GREAT MINISTRY!

Thank you, church family and friends for supporting and sharing the fellowship meal! Thanks for bringing your foods, family and friends. Like a parent at Christmas watching his children open gifts, I would rather go from table to table visiting and enjoying conversation than setting down to eat myself. I did get to enjoy visiting from table to table and I even stopped for a minute to enjoy some food with my family.

I am not sure how to say this but it looks like God meant it to be, the basket for donations. Yes, it is the heart and desire of the church and thru business action it is meant to be a financial blessing the church takes it upon ourselves thru the budget to provide this thanksgiving meal. Because of some miss-understandings, budgeting issues and or human errors we had a donation basket. It was announced that there was not a charge for the meal yet in the end there was over $700 in the basket! Why? I believe it was a God thing! I heard some say they were thankful it was there so they had an opportunity to give that they would not have had if it were not there. Just think we could have robbed someone of a blessing by trying to give a blessing without it. All I am saying is there is more than one way to look at the basket and God can turn our mistakes into His glory. Thank you to all who gave your donation blessings!

We will have a baptism service this coming Sunday. We may have as many as four or it may be one. One is supposed to happen for sure, two I am still talking to parents and trying to get ok’s and another is one who is being hesitant about it. Please keep all these in your prayers.

I was thinking going into this past weekend that we would get back to our series on Revelation this Sunday but since we are having a baptism service God has been strongly drawing my heart to a message about baptism. I get asked most of the time by people “Can I be baptized”? The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:36) asked Philip “What hinders me from being Baptized?” I feel the direction of the LORD for this coming Sunday is to speak about that question. With all that in mind this week’s message will be “Can I be baptized?” and our text will be Acts 8:26-40

PRAYER NEEDS: Larry Thornton had heart Cath, all is good with his heart pray as they continue to seek answers to his health issues, Thelma Robinson’s friend (Catherine) battling cancer, pray for the many people traveling for Thanksgiving,

The warship had just returned from a tour oversees and the young ensign shown himself to be responsible and efficient. Because of that he was given the opportunity to take command of the ship as it made its out to sea again.

As the ship was to pull away from the dock, the ensign gave a series of crisp commands, and before long he had the decks buzzing with men. The ship left port and began steaming out of the channel. The ensign’s efficiency had been remarkable.

In fact, the deckhands began to proudly acknowledge that he had set a new record for getting a destroyer under way. The ensign glowed with pride and was not all that surprised when another seaman approached him with a message from the captain.

 He read the following message:

“My personal congratulations upon completing this exercise according to the book and with amazing speed. In you haste, however, you have overlooked one of the unwritten rules of seafaring – make sure the captain is on board before leaving the dock.”

Happy Thanksgiving! Ready or not here comes Christmas!

See you in worship this Sunday!

The King is Coming

I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing. Ezekiel 34:26

We have 185 boxes filled and ready to turn in! Our goal was 200 and we may not have reached 200 but 185 is a lot of boxes! That means that 185 children around the world will get to receive a gift box filled with blessing for Christmas and the message of God’s love. Thank you again for filling so many boxes and being a part of this ministry!

We will have our annual Thanksgiving meal on Sunday, November 20th following our morning service. The Kitchen ministry is asking everyone to bring sides and desserts and there is a sign-up list so you can see what is being brought and or what may need to be brought.

There will be no evening activities on November 20th and 23rd.

Our poinsettias have been ordered and will be here the end of the month. If you would like to purchase one in honor or memory of someone there is a sign-up sheet in foyer.

Sunday evening (this Sunday November 13th) at 6pm. This month’s fellowship meal will be baked potatoes and toppings (all provided) bring desserts, please.

Last Sunday we talked about Revelation 17-18 and the false religion of the tribulation. I had just preached about false religion and the next day I saw a family member put something on FB that got me stirred up again about false religion.

A family member (ex-wife of a cousin) posted this saying on FB recently:

What is the difference between?

I like you and I love you

Beautifully answered by Buddha: When you like a flower, you pluck it but when you love a flower, you water it daily. One who understands this understands life.

Since I had been preaching about “false religion” the Buddhism comment sent me into the preacher mode and I couldn’t help but reply: Buddhism is a false religion and anyone who understands that should be looking to God’s word for the truth about love and not the world.

That statement though does make the point that I have been trying to make and that is that false religion though wrong will sound close to the truth and sound convincing if you are not spiritually mature to recognize the difference.

Signs to help you recognize “false religion” and or cults (a) they oppose critical thinking, they don’t want you doing any thinking on your own, (b) they teach a doctrine that is outside of Biblical doctrine, (c) they isolate a person from family or relationships that may have influence other than their own, (d) they have a non-appropriate loyalty to leadership, (e) they cross the Biblical boundaries of relationship

There are “false religions” all around us. Christians should be cautious and should be teaching their children and guiding their children in Biblical truth so that they can recognize “false religion” as well.

One of these days Jesus is coming again! When the rapture occurs, we will not be here to worry about the “false church” (Christians that is). Revelation tells us several times that “Babylon is fallen” and in 18:21-24 it describes Babylon being thrown into the sea with a big millstone so that there is no way she will survive or come back. That is good news that the tribulation will end, it will be only a seven-year period and the end of tribulation is going to be with the coming of Jesus to punish and end the devil the false Christ and false church once and for all.

I invite you to join me as we continue this series this week with our message from Revelation 19 titled “The King is Coming”!

Prayer needs: Frank Healer (heart Cath this coming Tuesday), the family of Donny Harbers (for our new members Bro. Donny was a pastor here several years ago), pray for Wylie Baptist church as they grieve the death of their pastor (Bro. Donny) and begin the steps of seeking their next pastor, Jeannie Fridrich (Abilene Regional), Patsy Thompson had test last week but found no other heart blockage that could be causing her weak heart so they are going to address the weakness of her heart with medication changes

O.K. it has finally come to an end, the race for president that is. I don’t know what the future holds for our economy or foreign issues and I don’t know what will be changed if anything about the health insurance problems but I say very loudly THANK YOU FOR SAYING YES TO LIFE and electing a president that believes killing babies is wrong!

This is November which is our month of “Thanksgiving”. As Christians, we should be thankful all the time and we have blessings upon blessings to be thankful for! Just a thought and or challenge: Don’t just keep your thankful thoughts to yourself, tell God, your family and friends why you are thankful while you can do it!

See you Sunday in worship!

The Religion of Tribulation

It is almost over and I can promise you that no one is going to be sad that is over. That is what I have been hearing and that people are getting exhausted with this election and will be ready to relax. On a serious note, I hope that if you have not voted early you will go next week on election day and caste a vote.

When you read Revelation 18 you read words and phrases like “the abundance of her luxury”, “she glorified herself and lived luxuriously”, “lived luxuriously with her” and “in one hour such great riches came to nothing.” Chapter 17 and 18 are talking about Babylon and many think and I agree that Babylon in these two chapters is referring to the religion of the tribulation period and probably either a place and a political power or at least a political power.

It is also thought that the political power comes from the religion and power that the “One Church” of the tribulation grows into but the power from the church turns on the church to do away with the church.

Since there is so much said about the wealth of the church during the tribulation I thought I would research the “Top Ten Wealthiest” churches today. (In case the LORD returns soon and one of them may be the one to take over during tribulation)

10. Church of Scientology

9. Free Masonry

8. Protestantism

7. Televangelist

6. Episcopalian Church

5. Church of England

4. Church of Latter Day Saints

3. Judaism

2. and 1.    You must come to church to hear who they are!

And for fun I looked up the top ten wealthiest pastors (by the way I am not one of them).

10. Rick Warren   9. Franklin Graham 8. Ed Young 7. Eddi Long 6. Joel Osteen 5. Benny Henn 4. Charles Blalie 3. John Hagee 2. Kenneth Copeland 1. Creflo Dallar

To tell you the truth I do not know what religion is going to be the church of the tribulation time, and it may not even already exist and I am not even going to be around to find out, so some may ask why are we even talking about it? My answer is because if we know that it is a real thing that is going to happen and it is going to cause people to be lost and die without Jesus then we should be desiring to be stronger witnesses today so our family and friends can get saved and not have to go thru any of the tribulation.

I pray that you will join me this Sunday as we “The Religion of Tribulation” in Revelation 17-18

Operation Christmas Child

Lord's Supper Service

Since early voting has begun and the election is getting very close I feel in it my heart that I should say something about it. I don’t feel that I should tell you who to vote for (though as a human being not a pastor I would love to tell everyone to vote the same way I voted). Also, I have written in a little more detail about voting in November’s Newsletter so you will get that soon and can read it then.

I would like to encourage you to do this: read Ephesians 5:15-17 before you vote and then pray for God to show you “His Will” and how what His Word says and Will is should show you how to vote. Let me encourage you to do this: “tune out” the influence of the media and the bias of your friends and listen to what God is saying.

I am trying to encourage you to vote without telling you who to vote for but I would also like to say that as you read Ephesians and pray about God’s Will remember Satan is a liar and deceiver and he (the devil) will do all he can to distract you and get you to vote or not vote without even thinking about what God says about what is happening (evil) in our world around us. Simply put let me say this if there are platforms and issues in this election or any election that will allow the devil to keep destroying people, don’t you think that is against God’s Will and should not be something or someone who gets a Christian vote.

We will put our series of messages on the book of Revelation on hold for a Sunday and this coming Sunday our message, focus and theme for worship will be all about the LORD’s Supper. Paul says in I Corinthians 11:26 “As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the LORD’s death till He comes.”

Join us this Sunday as we Proclaim our LORD’s death and victory for our salvation! Please be in prayer for this week’s worship as we share the LORD’s supper together.

Not this weekend

Time change will be 11-6-2016

Operation Christmas Child

I don’t know how close to our 200 box goal we will reach but we are getting really close to 150! We only have a couple of weeks until they must be taken to the collection center for our area or they will not be shipped to any children this Christmas. Please bring your boxes in soon and if you can we still have some empty boxes that can be filled. We still have a few empty boxes if you would like to do one more in the next week or so.

*We also have 35 more boxes that have been filled with lots of the extra gifts and goodies, all they need is the shipping donation of $7 each.

Our State Missions offering is just about to come to an end for this year. Bring and extra dollar or two and we will take up an ingathering offering for “State Missions” this Sunday!

Led by the Lamb or Bossed by the Beast

Last Sunday we talked about the “Evil Trinity” which is the Devil, the antichrist and the false prophet. We talked about how the Devil wants to be like God but instead of loving, caring and providing for the Devil and his trio only wants to destroy. They are very deceptive. They appear to be kind or loving at first but the truth is they are leading people down a path to destruction.

Revelation 14:9-10 “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, if anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or hand he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the Lamb.”

This Sunday as we continue our series in Revelation we will be in chapter 14. This Sunday’s message is “LED BY THE LAMB OR BOSSED BY THE BEAST”. The point is the decision is yours to make. No one can make it for you and refusing to pick is actually a decision in itself.

25 years ago as a much younger minister I had the opportunity to witness to a man and after sharing with Him God’s salvation he told me that he knew he should accept God and become a Christian but first he needed to do some things to clean up his life, such as stop drinking; then he said, he would say yes to God and become a Christian. Thankfully after more time, prayer and witnessing the man did become a Christian.

I shared that to say this, just because you know it is the right thing to do and or intend to do it later doesn’t make you a Christian. The decision to postpone it or put it off for another day is the same as saying no. Thankfully that man did give his heart and life to God before it was too late and today because he died a few years ago as a Christian he is in heaven.

What if you die or the rapture comes while you are in that “I am still trying to decide” time? Do you think God is going to say go ahead and take another second or two then I will tell you what is going to happen to you? I think the Bible is pretty clear when He comes back or if you die the state your soul is in at that moment (either lost or saved) will determine if you get to spend your eternity with God in heaven or apart from God in hell. There is no in between place for those who can’t make up their mind!

Which group are you in? Are you being “led by the LORD, the Lamb” or are you being “Bossed by the Beast, the devil”?

Update on our kids: Our son Brian and his oldest daughter and their pet dog left Abilene early Wednesday morning driving to and made it to their new home in California late Thursday evening. By the time you are reading this our daughter in law and their baby will be on a plane on their way to California. Teresa and I are proud of our kids and their new ministry and church but life is going to be different without them right here in the same town.
