Happy New Year

We are back from our vacation and time with the kids in California. We had a great time and enjoyed the visit and spending the Christmas time with them. It was a blessing to visit their new church and many of the new church family they are serving and they are being loved and the church has a great ministry, a great staff and lots of potential to keep growing and being a blessing in their community.

Thank you, Bro. Larry,  for preaching for me on Christmas day.

Thank you to all for loving Teresa and I and for all the cards, kind words and thoughts and gifts during this Christmas season.

Prayer and Praise: Praise God for being an awesome God, Praise God for hearing and answering prayer! PTL for providing Shea a new kidney! Thank You, LORD for providing thru the process a great team of doctors, a great donor, a loving family and a church family. Thank You today for a great healing and continued strength and health to come.

We continue to lift in our prayers: Royce Hightower (Hendrick Hospital) and his family, Eva Hargis had a heart Cath this week and received one stint, Debra Lofton fell and broke her wrist had to have surgery to repair

Please keep in your prayers this weekend the family of Frank Healer, his mother Mary Healer died Thursday morning and her funeral service will be in Sweetwater this coming Sunday at 2pm at the Lamar Street Baptist Church. If you would like to see how special a lady Mrs. Healer was go to McCoy’s funeral home web page and look at her obituary. The family did a great job in honoring a true Christian servant.

Our church newsletter is online beginning this month. To find it go to our webpage at and click on the newsletter tab.

Matthew 6:9-13

In this manner, therefore, pray;

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Merry Christmas

MONEY TREE…. Praise the LORD the time is almost here! Shea and his family have been waiting for over a year for a new kidney since he learned that both of his had stopped working. This coming week that new kidney will be put into Shea’s body. The surgery is going to take place in San Antonio and to help his parents with expenses while they are with Shea and Courtney we are giving them a Money Tree love offering. We are planning on giving them the money tree this Sunday evening so that they will have it before the trip to San Antonio.

This will be this Sunday (12-18) at 5 pm. We will meet at 5pm for our evening service this Sunday and then we will have a time of refreshments and fellowship.

We will have one worship service only on Christmas day. We will have our morning service on Christmas day at 10 am. We will not have Sunday School classes or evening services. There will also be no Christmas Eve Service.

We are receiving this offering for our SBC mission work around the world. Our goal is $3,000.

This week a former pastor of PBC, Bro. Callahan died, because of his love for missions the family is asking that donations in his honor be given to LOTTIE MOON OFFERING. This would be a good time and great way to honor a former pastor and reach people around the world with the gospel!

PRAYER NEEDS; Callahan family death of Bro. Callahan, Linda Mayfield, Shea Leech surgery to receive a new kidney this week, the donor giving a kidney, the family as they are all traveling to San Antonio, Marjorie Jack will be in Abilene Regional Rehab hospital till this coming Wednesday, Barry Jack (son of Marjorie had hip surgery this week),

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: after His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.  Matthew 1:18

Behold the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated God with us. Matthew 1:23

Last Sunday we focused on the birth of Christ as shared by Luke. We talked about Luke 2:11-12 and that although we may not know the exact day when Jesus was born the fact is Jesus was born. We talked about how He was born a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger and how that teaches us about the humility and humanity of Jesus.

Jesus was 100 % man and He was also 100% God. Luke’s account focuses on the man part of Christ our savior and Matthew’s account focuses on the God part of Christ our savior. Mary gave birth to baby Jesus but God conceived Jesus.

I pray you will join me this Sunday as we talk more about the story of Jesus birth from Matthew’s account and what that says to us about Mary and Joseph. Join me in praying for God to bless this Sunday’s service and message.

See you in worship.

For Unto You is Born

Sunday, Evening December 18th at 6 pm

Join us for this special service the week before Christmas. This will be an early Christmas Eve Service. Following the service, we will have a refreshment fellowship. Mark your calendar and join us for this special service and fellowship.

In honor of Shea Leech who is having a kidney transplant (just before Christmas) we will be presenting his parents Mike and Brenda Price with a money tree to help with expenses. Brenda is part of our Kitchen Ministry team and the Kitchen ministry team is taking the lead putting things together to present to Mike and Brenda on the night of our fellowship (12-18-16). Please put your monies in an envelope and mark it Shea Leech so that it will be given to our Kitchen ministry team.

For us really long timer Baptist who have been around forever, we know that this is the name of the offering we take up every Christmas to help support mission work around the world. Some are just calling it the International Missions offering which is the same thing they are just leaving off “Lottie Moon” because lots of younger and newer Baptists do not know who Lottie Moon was or is.

I pray that you will be a part of this offering and help us to give to support the sharing of the gospel around the world. We gave around $2700 last year so we have set a goal of $3,000 for this year.

The Christmas card mail box is ready for your cards. You can bring your cards by the church during the office hours which are 9 to 1 Monday thru Friday and please remember to stop by and look for cards left for you each service.

The New Year 2017

2017 will be here soon! Remember beginning in January our monthly newsletter will be “on-line”. This is just another reminder for those who need to turn in an address for a hard copy.

It has been a couple of years since the last time we did this but I am thinking about preaching your requests as we begin 2017. If you will put your Bible verse on paper with your name and give it to me I will do my best to prepare a message and share it. If you have a special song and include it, I will pass it on to Mike and we will see if we can plan some special services around your requests.

Revelation Series

I know we do not like much being finished with our series of sermons from the Book of Revelation and I really thought from the beginning that we would finish this series this year but I am going to put it on hold till after the first of January so we can focus the next couple of weeks on Christ’s first coming to our world.

I have no idea which Bible verse is used the most on Christmas Cards, and I to be honest couldn’t pick a verse that I like more than any other verse about the birth of Jesus, I like them all!

For today and this email I am going to pick Luke 2:11-12

“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the LORD. And this will be the sign to you; You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

Teresa talked to Cassie this morning (Thursday, 12-8-16) and Cassie said the 8th of December was a holiday in Italy and the day they celebrated the “birth of Jesus”.

The truth is we do not know for sure the exact day that Jesus was born on but we do know that as the Bible says “ON THIS DAY”, that there was a real day and it really happened that Jesus was born!

We also know that Jesus was born to be our SAVIOR. Jesus didn’t come to be just another person in humanity but He came to be THE PERSON in humanity who did become our SAVIOR because of His perfect and sinless life, and because of His sacrifice and death on a cruel cross and thankfully because of His victory over sin and death and resurrection!

I love Christmas and giving my children and grandchildren gifts and spending time with family. I enjoy the holiday and watching football and basketball and enjoying the company of family and friends. That is all something that only happens once a year.

I really love Jesus being born to be my Savior and I can celebrate that and be thankful for that “all year”!

Merry Christmas! Join me this Sunday and next and let’s worship our Savior!

Prayer needs this week: Linda Mayfield (at her brothers still trying to get better but still weak and not walking), Marjorie Jack (Abilene Regional Rehab), Shea and Courtney and family (kidney transplant coming soon) pray for the doctors, and the donor, Randy Couch (had some tests this week pray for good results), Jim and Bill Davis’s mother has been moved from Abilene Regional to Wisteria Place

See you in worship! Merry Christmas!

The Heart of the Millenium

And they lived and reigned with Christ for 1,000 years. Revelation 20:4

From this short verse of the Bible comes three really, different beliefs about the end of time.

                a) Postmillennialism: believes the 2nd coming of Christ will happen after the 1,000 years, postmillennialist do not believe the 1,000 years is a literal number, believers in this look for the world to get better and better until it is in what would be the “Golden Age” and “everyone” would become a Christian and then Christ will return.

                b) Amillennialism: the (a) before the word (millennial) means there will be NO millennial. This view came about because of human influence and reluctance to believe God meant His word as literal.

                c) Premillennialism: This is the view were the rapture of the church happens (the 2nd coming of Jesus), then the tribulation of 7 years and then the 1,000-year reign of Christ on earth.

The word “millennium” is not in the Bible but it means 1,000 and a specific time-period of 1,000 years is mentioned in Revelation 20. It may not be mentioned by the name of “millennium” but many believe it is the topic of many prophetic writings in scripture such as Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jerimiah, Amos and verses such as Matthew 25:31-46 where it is speaking of the “Son of Man coming in His glory” and “all nations will be gathered to Him” and He will separate them from one another.”

Not everyone believes there will be a “Millennial Reign” of Jesus Christ and not everyone who believes that there will be a “Millennial Reign” believes the same things about it.

Why is there going to be a Millennial Reign? What is it going to be like during the Millennial Reign? Who is going to be around during the Millennial Reign?

Will there be sin during the Millennial Reign?

Satan is going to be bound and there will be no influence from Satan, the antichrist or the false prophet (they are also locked up in hell). This brings into discussion the aspect of sin or no sin during this time. Can people live without sinning when they are not being influenced to sin by the devil or his demons?

When will God’s final judgment occur? Will it happen before the Millennial Reign begins or will it happen at the end of the Millennial Reign? Will there be un-saved people living during the Millennial Reign?

About the only thing, I know for sure is there are more questions than there are answers about the Millennial. Pray that we will find and share the answers God would have us to know. Come and join us this coming Sunday as we continue with our series of sermons on the Book of Revelation.

It is time for our LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING, this is our offering we take up during this time of year for mission work around the world. Please be in prayer about how much you can give to support the sharing of the gospel around the world by our SBC missionaries. Last year we received around $2,700 let’s make that our goal to go over this year!

Our Christmas Card mail-box will be up soon, very possibly this weekend. Use the mail-box for your cards to church families and give the money saved from postage to the mission offering.

Beginning in January of 2017 we are going to make the change from mailing out monthly newsletters to posting them on line. We do want you to be able to get our monthly news so if you do not have a computer and internet access please let us know and we will continue to mail you a copy.

We have some extra poinsettias if you would like contact the church office or Teresa soon and purchase one in honor/memory of someone.

Prayer needs: Marjorie Jack (Abilene Regional), Linda Mayfield (Health South rehab hospital), Jim and Bill Davis’s mother is in Abilene Regional, Sandra Burleson infusion treatment (pray that it works) search for a nursery worker,

A young man was learning to fly and it was time to learn the landing phase of his instructions. The instructor asked “Are you ready to go down?” The student replied “Let’s do it.” The plane began to descend and the instructor noticed the student appeared to be very calm with no sign of nervousness. The instructor even thought to himself this is going to be a great pilot with the way he seems to be handling this landing. The plane continued to descend and then suddenly it hit the runway with a bang and bounced up and then down again and running off the runway and crashing into the dirt of a field. The instructor said “Son I have been teaching a long time and that was the worst landing ever by a student of mine.” The student replied, “Me, I thought you were landing the plane.”

Who is piloting your life?

Sunday will be here soon! I pray you will join me in worship this Sunday as we offer our LORD the praise and glory due His precious name!

See you then, thanks for the prayers!

Happy Thanksgiving

Psalm 117:1-2

Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you people! For His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

Psalm 118:1

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Let us give thanks to our Heavenly Father for His kindness to us, and let us share His kindness with others through our kindness to them.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I Corinthians 13:4

Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil

Just a thought: why is it that Christians expect non-Christians to be KIND, TENDERHEARTED, FORGIVING NOT RUDE AND NOT PUFFED UP, yet it is ok for Christians to ignore these teachings and act however they feel like acting?

Thank you, Kitchen Ministry Team, for another great meal served! For those who may not know this ministry team and they are a ministry for all the ways they serve the families not only of our church but also community, meet weekly to plan discuss and prepare to serve. For week’s they have been making trips to stores, working on decorations making sure all the ingredients for our dinner were taken care of. They did an awesome job, coordinating this meal and making it a great meal to eat and getting as many different others involved bringing side dishes. Thank you, ladies, for the hours of hard work and all the time planning and thoughtfulness that you put into making this a great Thanksgiving fellowship meal! And you should know that these ladies do this year-round to help us serve our associational meals, funeral meals and all our other church meals. THANK YOU AGAIN LAIES FOR A GREAT MEAL AND THANK YOU FOR A GREAT MINISTRY!

Thank you, church family and friends for supporting and sharing the fellowship meal! Thanks for bringing your foods, family and friends. Like a parent at Christmas watching his children open gifts, I would rather go from table to table visiting and enjoying conversation than setting down to eat myself. I did get to enjoy visiting from table to table and I even stopped for a minute to enjoy some food with my family.

I am not sure how to say this but it looks like God meant it to be, the basket for donations. Yes, it is the heart and desire of the church and thru business action it is meant to be a financial blessing the church takes it upon ourselves thru the budget to provide this thanksgiving meal. Because of some miss-understandings, budgeting issues and or human errors we had a donation basket. It was announced that there was not a charge for the meal yet in the end there was over $700 in the basket! Why? I believe it was a God thing! I heard some say they were thankful it was there so they had an opportunity to give that they would not have had if it were not there. Just think we could have robbed someone of a blessing by trying to give a blessing without it. All I am saying is there is more than one way to look at the basket and God can turn our mistakes into His glory. Thank you to all who gave your donation blessings!

We will have a baptism service this coming Sunday. We may have as many as four or it may be one. One is supposed to happen for sure, two I am still talking to parents and trying to get ok’s and another is one who is being hesitant about it. Please keep all these in your prayers.

I was thinking going into this past weekend that we would get back to our series on Revelation this Sunday but since we are having a baptism service God has been strongly drawing my heart to a message about baptism. I get asked most of the time by people “Can I be baptized”? The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:36) asked Philip “What hinders me from being Baptized?” I feel the direction of the LORD for this coming Sunday is to speak about that question. With all that in mind this week’s message will be “Can I be baptized?” and our text will be Acts 8:26-40

PRAYER NEEDS: Larry Thornton had heart Cath, all is good with his heart pray as they continue to seek answers to his health issues, Thelma Robinson’s friend (Catherine) battling cancer, pray for the many people traveling for Thanksgiving,

The warship had just returned from a tour oversees and the young ensign shown himself to be responsible and efficient. Because of that he was given the opportunity to take command of the ship as it made its out to sea again.

As the ship was to pull away from the dock, the ensign gave a series of crisp commands, and before long he had the decks buzzing with men. The ship left port and began steaming out of the channel. The ensign’s efficiency had been remarkable.

In fact, the deckhands began to proudly acknowledge that he had set a new record for getting a destroyer under way. The ensign glowed with pride and was not all that surprised when another seaman approached him with a message from the captain.

 He read the following message:

“My personal congratulations upon completing this exercise according to the book and with amazing speed. In you haste, however, you have overlooked one of the unwritten rules of seafaring – make sure the captain is on board before leaving the dock.”

Happy Thanksgiving! Ready or not here comes Christmas!
