Watch Your Mouth

Two men who lived in a small village got into a terrible dispute that they could not resolve. So, they decided to talk to the town sage. The first man went to the sage's home and told his version of what happened. When he finished, the sage said, "You're absolutely right." The next night, the second man called on the sage and told his side of the story. The sage responded, "You're absolutely right." Afterward, the sage's wife scolded her husband. "Those men told you two different stories and you told them they were absolutely right. That's impossible -- they can't both be absolutely right." The sage turned to his wife and said, "You're absolutely right."

If it is possible as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18

It is honorable for a man to stop striving, since any fool can start a quarrel. Proverbs 20:3

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:6

Christianity is under attack by many in our world who are “uncomfortable” with our beliefs. Christians are called bigots by some because of our belief that homosexuality is wrong. Christians are called intolerant by some because we believe abortion is wrong. Christians are called extremist because we believe “God hates and judges’ sin”. Christians are called narrow minded because we believe in “One God” and “One way of Salvation thru Jesus Christ”.

How are you treating others? Do you ignore others? Do you tolerate others? Do you respond with unkindness to those who are not kind to you?

As we continue our series of messages on “UNCOMFORTABLE”, this week our topic is Criticism/Conflict. In Matthew 5 as Jesus was giving the sermon on the Mount He said, “leave your offering and go make things right with your brother”. People may not like hearing this but “WHEN WE HAVE A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE WE HAVE A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD”. That is why God teaches us to go and make things right with others.

Criticism and conflict each make us uncomfortable, and I believe that often they are connected in that it is the words from the mouth that caused the conflict. Sometimes those words are directed at those who have said things wrongly about us as in the examples above, and sometimes those words are aimed at our brothers and sisters in our church families.

Solomon said, “anybody can start a fight” and that is true, but we need to learn how to “stop” them. I was listening to a message preached by Rick Warren the pastor of Saddleback Church in California on the topic of “conflict” and he said, “the phrase husbands most fear hearing from their wives is (we need to talk)”.

Husbands, wives, church members, neighbors and friends it doesn’t matter we all need to learn one how to control our mouth and two how to resolve conflict.

Paul said, “As much as depends on you”, as Christians we should be leading the way in living peaceably with others. This means if you ask me we should be getting right our speech to others and our measures of conflict management.

I pray you will join me this Sunday as we continue our series on the topic of “Uncomfortable”. This week’s message is “Watch your mouth” and our text is Col. 4:5-6.

Uncomfortable with God's Communion

I Corinthians 11:27: Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the LORD in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the LORD.

So far in our new series we have talked about being “Uncomfortable with God’s Charity (love)” and being “Uncomfortable with God’s Commands” this week we are going to talk about being “Uncomfortable with God’s Communion”.

I feel it is sad, but I have known people that have told me that they did not feel worthy to take communion, so they would skip church on the Sunday we had the LORD’s Supper.

If you read verse 22 Paul says “What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in?” Paul was teaching that the LORD’s supper was not a meal and the place to eat a meal for your physical nourishment was at home. If you are trying to use the LORD’s supper as a “meal” you are doing it in an “unworthy manner”.

We will talk more about the issue of sin and the observance of communion this coming Sunday but let me encourage you to read I John 1:9 and think about what it is saying. It is a small word, but it has great meaning in that verse and it is the word “ALL”. God forgives ALL our sin when we confess it to Him!

We are not observing the LORD’s supper to GET HIM TO FORGIVE, Jesus already died for our sins and all we have to do is trust Him and ask for His forgiveness and it will be done, once and for all. Once we have a relationship with Jesus thru faith then each time we have the opportunity to observe communion we are celebrating what Jesus has done for us.

Join me this Sunday as we celebrate communion!

Sunday, 23rd at 6pm, THE TEXANS

We will have CHURCH AT HOME this coming Sunday evening. I suggest that we all use the message of LORD’s Supper from I Cor. 11:23-26 and share more about the importance of observing it to our families and as a family. You may want to read some other important verses like I John 1:9 and Romans 3:23 and 5:8 and 6:23 and talk about God’s forgiveness.

One More Thing:

My first prayer is that we will not have too many folks out for the holiday weekend, but my next thought is a prayer. “LORD, keep everyone safe who is traveling this weekend.” If you are going camping or going to be away this weekend, let me encourage you to “take worship with you”. No matter where you go block off some time either alone or with those you are going to see to Celebrate the Cross and read and share together passages of scripture about Jesus giving His life on the cross for us. If you feel comfortable (that seems odd to say since we are preaching about “being uncomfortable”), get some grape juice and crackers and have a “LORD’s supper” with your family.

Be safe this weekend, be in worship wherever you are.

Uncomfortable with God's Commands

If you love Me, you will obey what I command. John 14:15

Last week we began a new series “UNCOMFORTABLE”, and Hunter did a good job getting us started and presenting “Uncomfortable with God’s Charity”. He talked about John 13 and Jesus washing the disciple’s feet. Jesus loves you and I that much that He is willing to serve even in the lowliest tasks. How much do we love Jesus, and others and what are we willing to do for others?

This week we will continue with our series “UNCOMFORTABLE” and this week’s message will be “Uncomfortable with God’s commands”.

Obedience is important. Obedience speaks to our relationship with Jesus. I think part of the problem why some have issues with obedience is because they are still “immature in their faith”. They haven’t grown up and like children who disobey their parents or authority they disobey God.

Sometimes people may be uncomfortable with God’s commands because they “don’t want to be told what to do”. This sounds like someone who has a problem with allowing God to be sovereign and be LORD of their life. Lot’s of people want Jesus to be savior, so they can go to heaven someday, but they do not want Him or do not allow Him to be LORD TODAY because they don’t want anyone to “Boss them”.

I pray you will join me this week as we continue these messages on our reasons for being Uncomfortable. Pray with me that God will move people out of their comfort zones and into HIS UNCOMFORTABLE ZONES.

Hard to believe we are about to the end of another year of our Super Summer Services. They have been very well attended. I think this year at each one of the services we have had larger crowds than before. Thank You for supporting these services each year! This week’s service will be at HAMBY BAPTIST: meal at 5pm and worship at 6pm.

MISSION EMPHISIS: Operation Christmas Child

We do have more boxes on the way! Our display of boxes is getting low, thank you for picking up lots of boxes and filling them. Hopefully the boxes will be in soon.

Praise: Shelby Borton is home, she is better but still has a long way to go, Brycen, Pat Smith, Darlene Terry (had her ear surgery this week), Praise the LORD for more rain this week, pray for all the students and teachers as they are beginning a new school year,

Final thought:

1 Corinthians 9:26-27

“Thus, I do not run aimlessly; I do not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.”

My goal was 50 miles a week, I reached that last with a total of 54 and so for this week (Monday – Thursday) I have ridden my bike 70 miles. The Bible doesn’t say everyone has to ride bikes or jog or swim or go to the gym, but Paul does talk about exercising his body as a good thing.

My thought in this is not to boast about “what I have done” but to ask and or challenge you: What goals are you setting?

Thanks for the prayers! See you in Worship!

We had a great day all day this past Sunday, Dr. Jeff Steed brought our morning service and talked to us and encouraged us to “Leave a Legacy”! I am still thinking about a statement Dr. Steed made during his message which was “the lady who gave the two mites, was not thinking that her story was going to be repeated and shared 2,000 years after she gave them.” I am still letting that sink in that some of our small things may be impacting others in a long-lasting future way! Thanks again Dr. Steed for bringing our morning message.

Sunday evening, we had our first SUPER SUMMER SUNDAY SERVICE! THANK YOU FOR BEING GREAT HOSTS! We had (I didn’t officially count) 120 or even more here for our first service! Again, we had great fellowship with our friends and family from our sister churches. Our food was awesome, and our ladies did a super job once again and it is hard to describe but the cookie table was “spectacular”. In case you missed it, the cookie table was so neat that people were afraid to take cookies to begin with because they did not want to miss up the decoration. Thank You, men for cooking all the hamburgers and hotdogs! Thanks to all who served and came early to help us be good hosts!

Our Super Summer Sunday Service will be at EULA BAPTIST this coming Sunday evening. We will meet with them at 5pm for a meal and worship time at 6pm.

Saturday, August 11th from 8-1

Get your boxes, fill your boxes, help bless children all around the world with gifts and the love of Jesus

Why Are You Here?

Several weeks ago, when we began this series we first talked about the man who because his son was dying was in need of JESUS PRESENCE. He wanted Jesus to go heal his son.

Then we talked about the woman who came to Jesus with the bleeding issue she had had for 12 years. Her health was getting worse and she had spent all she had on trying to find a cure. She did not want Jesus Presence in fact she just wanted to secretly receive “HIS POWER”. She learned that you can receive His power but not without His knowing it.

A couple of week’s ago we talked about the woman who was a sinner that came to the dinner Jesus was sharing with the Pharisee. She didn’t have a physical issue, but she did have a sin issue and because of the guilt of her sin she was in need of “JESUS PEACE”.

Long story short for the past couple of weeks’ I have felt as if there was at least one more message I should be preaching about this, but I couldn’t get figure it out. I wanted it to be another “P” word like Presence, Power and Peace but I just wasn’t seeing it. I have been praying about it and asking God to either take away the feeling that I should preach one more or make it clearer what it is I was to preach.

My conversation with God was going something like this. “God please help me to see the next sermon”. God’s answer seemed to be for days, “Keith Pray”. I would keep praying and asking and kept hearing the same thing, then with a smile and a slap to my forehead I said, “Thank You Lord, I get it now… the next reason to come to Jesus is to PRAY!”

Luke 11:1

11 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

How often are you praying? Why do you pray? What things do you pray for? How long do you pray? Would you rather pray than read your Bible? Would you rather pray than watch TV?

Has pray changed your life? When was the last time God answered one of your prayers?

We have a lot we can talk about when it come to praying. I pray that you will join me for one more message in this “Why are you here” series. This week’s message is “Coming to Jesus to Pray” and our text will be Luke 11:1, please join me for this worship and message and bring your family and friends.

Prayer needs: Shelby Borton (still in Hendrick), Pat Smith (Wesley court), Brycen Potts, Cindi Thornton, Rain,

See you Sunday! It will be another SUPER SUNDAY!

Super Summer Sunday Service

This Sunday we will host the first of our SSSS with our sister church’s Elmdale, Eula and Hamby! We will have a Hamburger/Hotdog supper at 5pm then we will have our evening service with everyone at 6pm. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Jeffery Steed from the Southern Baptist of Texas Foundation. Dr. Steed is who helped us set up our Endowment Fund from Mrs. Doris Morton’s last contribution from her estate. Her last tithe became a “living tithe” that will continue to give for years to come. Dr. Steed is going to share about this opportunity to our sister church’s, there may be other people out there who are interested in doing the same thing with their estates.

Join us for this exciting time of fellowship and combined worship!

We get a plus in that Dr. Steed will be here all day and will also be brining our morning message as he is going to speak on biblical principles of financial planning and setting your house in order.

**If you are making cookies for the SSSS meal please bring them during the morning service so the ladies can have plenty of time to set up all the tables and decorations.

Thank you again as we can now put focus on phase three! If you are reading this and you would like to see our services on the web so you can watch them from home or when you are away, we will accept other contributions to this fund to help make this happen even sooner.
