All Things New

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. I Peter 5:2-4

Wow January is nearly half over! Do you think this year will continue to go by as fast as it seems to be doing?

I believe God is going to bless 2017 and I believe 2017 may be the most blessed year yet for Potosi Baptist Church!

Two things that I believe will set our course for the year and be blessed by God and blessings to each of us as individuals are “Our Prayers” and “Our Worship”. I believe prayer and worship are not only important but vital to our spiritual health both individually and as a congregation.

We have started the year with messages about each and I pray a challenge to grow in each. If you have missed out on any of these messages let me catch you up so we can all be on the same page as we seek to serve our LORD and grow spiritually in 2017 and I am praying grow together in our unity, fellowship and individual walks with our Savior and Master.

Our first message, “Our Prayer for 2017” was from Matthew 6:9-13 and we talked about the importance of praying to our heavenly Father, for our daily needs and for our relationships with others and for God’s guidance and protection in our lives. We talked about the importance of praying daily and not just when we have an emergency or want to impress others who may be watching. We should put and keep “Praying” at the top of our daily list of “Must do today” things.

Our next message “Assembly Required” was from Hebrews 10:24-25 and we talked about the importance of Worship to us as individuals and to us as a congregation. We talked about it not being required for salvation but being a requirement of our heavenly Father’s for us individually for our spiritual health. Worship is like our spiritual food and when we have a “poor diet” spiritually we are not in good spiritual health.

I pray that in 2017 we individually and as a church family grow in our prayers and worship!

Let me take a moment and repeat another statement and challenge that as your pastor I made this past Sunday. As your Shepherd, I believe I should do my best to be an example. I take being present very seriously and I take spending time in prayer very seriously as well. If you are a part of our leadership (church staff, deacons and Sunday School teachers) I want (expect) you to raise the bar of commitment to the areas of prayer and worship as well.

I can’t lead unless I am willing to do myself what I teach and we (myself and deacons and staff and teachers) cannot lead either unless we and that is you as well are willing to be an example also. I understand that not everyone is going to get that lifetime medal for never missing a Sunday but we as leaders should be there more than those we are trying to teach and lead. It is God’s requirement that we all worship as brothers and sisters in the LORD. It is Potosi Baptist Churches requirement that we (all of us) who are leaders be in worship.

We did not finish our series of messages on the book of Revelation. We stopped in early December and I shared that we would pick the series back up sometime in January 2017. It is time to finish the book of Revelation so we will continue this series starting again this coming Sunday. Teresa takes notes every week so I asked her to double check where I had left off and the last message was “The King is Coming” from chapter 19. We will highlight chapter 20 which is all about the 1,000-year RULE and REIGN of CHRIST here on earth then we will jump into chapter 21 which is about THE BEGINNING OF ALL THINGS NEW.

Jesus has been the King for 1,000 years! All you would think is well, Jesus is in charge and Satan is locked away along will all his demons. At the end of the millennial period Satan is going to be released one last time. Sadly, this is going to reveal the people who didn’t have Satan’s influence before but will be willing to turn away from the LORD and they will be defeated along with Satan and finally the end comes and Satan and all the lost who have rejected Jesus will be sentenced, judged and sent to an everlasting hell to be tormented and separated from God forever.

As the end of Satan, Sin and death happens the BEGINNING OF ALL THINGS NEW starts for all the Saints of God who are and or who have ever been.

The very first verse of 21 says John saw “A new heaven and a new earth”. Chapter 20 verse 11 tells us that the first earth and heaven had fled away because there was “no place” for them. There are also various passages in the OT that speak of the “New heavens and earth”.

God is good enough to have created this Earth and the heavens and He can if He desires create another. He created the first Universe from nothing and He doesn’t need anything to do it again.

A word study I came across from this text explained that there were two meanings for the word new in the Bible. One is “new in kind” and the other is “new in quality”. The new in kind was the earth when it was originally made because there had never been an earth or sky. The new in quality is the one used in Revelation 21:1 and means that our new earth will not be a remodeled old earth but a newly created earth that is like the old but new in quality.

I don’t know if God is going to create the Grand Canyon or some of the other Natural Beauties of the “old earth”, but He doesn’t need any of the man-made stuff all around the world still around so off it all goes and in comes EVEERYTHING NEW!

Please join me in praying for this week’s message and worship and come join in the worship of our heavenly Father and Creator!

We are continuing to receive the foreign mission offering thru the month of January. On the last Sunday, January 29 we will take up an ingathering offering.  I suggest we call this the Bro. Callahan offering for foreign missions in his memory and honor. Bro. Callahan a former pastor here loved foreign missions. We have lots of other ties to foreign missions thru current people we know serving on the field and we have ties to former missionaries who are retired who served for years all around the world. Join me in praying for the special offering and God’s blessings upon the offering and the work our foreign missionaries do.

Men’s CHILI COOK-OFF…. January 29th at 6pm

Would you help in the nursery for a Sunday? We have a person for this coming Sunday but would like to have another volunteer for the next couple of weeks. We may have a new paid nursery worker soon but to make sure we have it covered please consider helping us as a volunteer, thanks.

This Sunday we will also recognize and say “THANK YOU” to Jennifer King for her many years of service to our children and their families as our nursery worker. Get her a card and a gift if you would like and bring them with you to church this Sunday and we will show her our appreciation and thanks.

Thanks for your prayers! I look forward to seeing you in worship!

Your pastor and friend

Bro. Keith
